UV-DTF Printing? What It Is and How It Works – A Quick Guide!

UV-DTF – The New Sticker for Custom Printing

Printing is the best way to make a product stand out. For low-cost applications, it’s usually labels; for large runs, conventional printing; and for medium runs, digital direct printing. But what about small quantities, or when you’re looking for a special texture? That’s where UV-DTF printing comes in. It’s a combination of stickers and digital printing that looks like direct printing—only more affordable.

Step 1: Printing and Laminating

<
The UV DTF printer is where it all begins. Here, digital printing is performed using CMYK and white ink, along with an additional protective coating. The inks, which cure under UV light, ensure a scratch-resistant and glossy print.
To enable the print to be applied to various products later, a special carrier film developed specifically for UV-DTF is used. This "A-film" is coated with an adhesive onto which the print is applied. Once the print is complete, the printed A-film is laminated against another film, the "B-film." This securely encapsulates the print image and adhesive until it is ready to be applied to the item.

Step 2: Prepare and Apply

Once the UV-DTFs have been printed, all that’s left is to apply them to the product. Almost any solid surface is suitable for this, making them universally applicable. Promotional materials, cosmetics, DIY, and hobby projects can all be printed on equally well. To do this, first clean the surface of dust and grease, e.g., with isopropyl alcohol or window cleaner. Then separate the B-film from the A-film to expose the UV-DTF transfer. Now all that’s left is to press it on. Once everything has been pressed firmly into place, the A-film is peeled off again, leaving the clean print image on the product. The perfect digital direct-to-fabric look, without expensive machines.

Step 3: Endless Applications

UV DTF transfers are perfect for small runs, high-quality prints, and a wide variety of products. A small batch of perfume, 50 phone cases for the shop around the corner, company logos on USB drives, giveaways, and much more. Quickly produced using digital printing and, with the potential for multicolor designs, a simple way to expand your portfolio.
You can either purchase UV-DTFs to get started or jump right in using your own printing system.
